district said both were students, one middle school, the other in elementary. john lives near the accident. >> just popping noises, and then we looked out our window and saw fire. >> reporter: he wonders how the crash could have happened, but he has noticed aggressive drivers on this stretch of foothill road. >> every night we hear cars going pretty fast on that road, and we have lived here for almost 10 years, and it's been a problem ever since. >> reporter: friends described the family is very social and active in the community. the father enjoyed outdoor activities such as hiking and skiing. >> he was a great personality, and very active. >> police say they are actively investigating the crash and

should have an update by friday. this is not the first time that tragedy has struck on foothill road in pleasanton. there have been four deadly crashes in the last two decades including one on christmas night , 2019. twin teenage brothers, their friend, were killed, their car also slammed into a tree. our juliette goodrich was at the scene, and said this road has a reputation. >> reporter: i can tell you from growing up here and living here as a resident now, foothill road has always been known as a dangerous stretch of roadway. in particular, this spot right now, where it merges into one lane. cars right now are going the speed limit, but sometimes that's not always the case. parents have tried to get things changed along the roadway, and as a parent can anytime we hear there is an accident or fatality because our kids to make sure they aren't behind the wheel. that's the latest from wasn't him. i'm juliette goodrich. sarah? >> pleasanton unified district

told us counseling services will be available to students and staff friday in the wake of the tragedy. tonight pro-palestinian protest movements springing up on college campuses from coast to coast as we've been discussing for days. call it students are banding together to call for their universities to cut ties with israel. this video is out of ucla where protesters pitched tents over the past few hours. another california university is actually canceling commencement over the protests, and nationwide but we've seen hundreds arrested. another campus crackdown, this time at atlanta's emory university. police tore down tents and tased some protesters. some students and faculty were led away in handcuffs, and there are doing protests now at the university of texas, austin. pro-palestinian and pro-israeli protesters faced off on campus with security watching. >> is my understanding that

university of texas austin funds research israel directly benefits from. >> reporter: ut austin had 50 arrested. >> they were tripping and arresting us. >> reporter: the texas governor saying protesters belong in jail but critics pointed out abbott signed this legislation in 2019. >> i'm about to sign a law that protects free speech on college campuses in texas. first amendment guarantees it. now is law in texas. >> reporter: lapd used batons to disperse a large crowd of protesters wednesday night. the school ended up canceling its main stage commencement ceremony. across the country protests are in their ninth straight day at columbia university. some jewish students say they are scared to be on campus. >> many of us were at the music

festival or lived nearby, i'm sorry i'm getting very emotional, and adding to that.situation where people scream hateful speech, who have harassed and attacked us verbally is making it impossible to be here. >> protesters at stanford have also set up in protest, there is a springing up in the last few hours, also calling in their university to divest from israel. this is the second demonstration to take place at stanford. the first, disbanded in february, in exchange for meetings with leadership to discuss student demands. berkeley is the site of a protest for more than 100 are staying in tents and outside, including palestinian students themselves who want their school to take a stand.

weinstein after a new york appeals court today tossed out his 2020 to 9 conviction which has led to questions about his other convictions here in california. for which he is serving a 16 year's instance currently. sentence. >> reporter: a bombshell ruling by a new york appeals court sending shockwaves from coast to coast in a stunning 4-3 decision the court judges overturned his sex crimes convictions. >> it's devastating. i woke up to this horrible news. >> reporter: lauren who never testified said weinstein fondled himself in front of her at a dinner party, she spoke with cbs news correspondent jericka duncan. >> i think today's decision doesn't in any way falsify what those women testified to or relieve him of any guilt in any way. i think this was a

seeing there was an important reason to try harvey weinstein in two different jurisdictions. if you're potentially guilty of crimes intimate jurisdictions than following the rule of law would indicate you should be tried in both. >> reporter: weinstein's convictions do not appear in jeopardy in california. >> california law is different from new york, there's a more generous lot when it comes to bringing in evidence of a legend prior sexual misconduct against a defendant. >> reporter: weinstein terrorized women's for decades, he's case inspired the #metoo movement. there are fears this ruling could set this movement back. back here in the bay area let's talk about something that nobody likes, getting parking tickets. the moment you see someone slapping on your windshield you are generally not at your best. do you know who knows that

better than anyone? the people who write those tickets. in san francisco they are being told to step up enforcement, but as they told our amanda harry, now those ticketing officers feel they have an even bigger target on their back. >> it's very stressful, i have anxiety, and it's scary. >> reporter: dozens of parking control officers with the san francisco municipal transportation agency took a break from enforcing the city laws to rally and fight for themselves including mishawn, who says two years ago, she placed the parking citation under someone's windshield wiper and drove away, thinking that interaction was over. she was wrong. >> someone got upset because they got a ticket, so he followed me about two or three blocks, waited for me, punched the window, and it caught my

eye. >> reporter: the glass from the enforcement vehicle window cut her face and eye. she could not work for 10 months while she recovered. >> i thought i was going to lose my eye. >> reporter: the case is still pending. she did think about leaving her job. >> i learned about doing a desk job, and i thought i'm not going to let him win. and so i initially went back out, but i am still apprehensive to this day. >> reporter: president of the parking control officers union says that she is not alone in her experience. >> we deal with objects being thrown at us, physical assaults, threats being made on our lives and family. >> reporter: they said they prioritize safety in that safety incidences are down 40 percent since 2018. they say the officers get de- escalation training, self- defense tools, and have access

to a dispatch center that communicates directly to police. but adams says they are calling to do more. he said the officers did not know about the intensive sweeps that were recently announced by the director. >> it was shocking to me, because we have forms where we can meet with the mayor and with our leadership, and never once have we been brought into the conversation. >> reporter: the sweeps make them even more concerned for their safety. >> i'm constantly looking over my shoulder like i'm traumatized. >> while there are still negotiating contracts all options are on the table including going on strike. okay, paul, a pink moon was spotted earlier this week when the moon was at its peak.

a couple hundredths of an inch. future cast shows a couple cracks in the clouds, but a lot of clouds and gray to the first half of the day tomorrow, but little green, just a couple showers towards midday. the best chance of showers will remain off the coast of the ocean, or running to the central valley, and most of the bay will be between those two areas of focus. the gray disappears or partially disappears. we will see more sunshine, and that will be the case into the weekend as well. we will return to near normal april conditions as we go into the weekend which means the wind will be as much of a factor, but it will be tomorrow. the winds are noticeable overnight, but the strongest gusts around 25, not that strong for the bay. does pick up around midday tomorrow through the afternoon. strongest gusts in the range of 35-40 miles an hour, short of wind advisory thresholds. it may move you on the road, or

your furniture or trash cans. just secure everything. temperatures are in the mid to upper 50s across the board. the numbers won't change much as we go through tonight drop into the low 50s with just a couple locations dipping into the upper 40s. and we try to warm up tomorrow. we will end up about 3-6 degrees below average. mid-60s into santa clara. east bay struggling to short of 70 degrees. so another day of unseasonably cool weather. no surprise, upper 50s for half moon bay. you should struggle back to around 60 as we head into the weekend. there will be a struggle to hit 16 san francisco, and the to upper 60s for most of the north bay by tomorrow afternoon. everybody returns to the near average temperatures through the weekend, and there's a brief warm-up as we finish the month of april into may. looks like the last day of april and first day of may will

bring the warmest temperatures to inland parts of the bay, then we are down to near normal levels by the end of the first week of may. temperatures do have the return to near average levels. we are saying 80 degrees on average for inland parts of the bay on tuesday, the last day of april. around the bed warm-up will be noticeable. sunday's, mid 70s. barely noticeable, but it should make it to around 60 degrees by tuesday and wednesday the thing you will notice along the coast this weekend is that the sunshine is going to be more of a factor. even if you're temperatures don't up it will at least look warmer outside. a day in the life of a police officer doesn't usually begin pulling up in a chauffeur stretch limousine, but it was not a regular day for officer hicks. this 4-year-old boy in orlando, florida, has always wanted to be a cop, and of course is a fan of paw patrol. make-a-wish helped make that happen. he had a transplant from kidney failure. he got to work fighting crime, and it all started with this news report from a familiar face. >> breaking news update. we just got word of a bold dog napping happened here in the city of orlando in broad daylight. the whole thing was caught on camera. let's take a look at this exclusive video we just got into the newsroom. you can see the victim, she gets out of the vehicle and is on her phone.

and watch as the suspect makes his way to the vehicle, and within seconds runs off with the dog. but it appears he's had his eye on this dog for a long time. i was able to speak with the victim moments after this happened, and yet as you can imagine she is distraught. >> i got a phone call, but i left the dog in the car. i did not know someone was going to steal the dog. oh my god. >> stone was sworn in by the chief and was on the case. no surprise he cracked it. he has one arrest under his belt and caught a t-shirt stealing thief that made off with the jersey after putting two. that's really cute.
