morning across the entire area. but we also have some warm winds to deal with. a wind advisory has been issued until tomorrow morning. this includes all of solano county and basically the highest peaks of napa county and parts of eastern sonoma county, where we find winds right now gusting about 20 to 40mph. in fact, we'll take you into our hills and you can see some of those areas with those strong gusts. that offshore flow this morning is keeping temperatures elevated in some areas, like fairfield, saint helena. right now we're starting out the morning pretty warm in the low 60s, but where we're sheltered by that breeze, areas like oakland, it's much colder at 49. same in fremont. we're at 54 right now in san jose. we expect a lot of sunshine today. it's a mild and breezy morning. it is a warm afternoon away from the coast. today we're going into the 70s and 80s for daytime highs. let's check in with amanda and see those drive times this morning. yeah good morning. >> drew a traffic alert here at the top of the hour. we're taking a look at these drive

times. the typical slowdown from tracy to dublin as you see that's going to take you about 45 minutes san rafael to san francisco 15 minutes. and then your drive from antioch to concord, just 24 minutes back to the desk. thanks amanda. >> developing news san francisco unified under pressure from the state to solve its deepening financial crisis. tough decisions have to be made before schools run out of money. abc seven news reporter gloria rodriguez is here. and gloria, there was a special meeting last night. so what came of that? >> well, reggie, one thing. state officials had some tough words for the sfusd board blasting their business practices. the board of the san francisco unified school district gathered last night for a special meeting to discuss the district's budget problems. a new report from the california department of education highlights the financial strain and says sfusd may run out of cash by the next school year. sfusd superintendent matt wayne introduced a presentation by state advisors on what steps they think the district needs to make. despite the difficulties, he says he is confident the district will be able to meet

its obligations moving forward. >> tonight's presentation uh- of our 2223 audit is both. i think exemplifies what you're saying is both the progress we've made, but how far we need to go. >> you have to recognize you have a problem. >> some stern words for the board right there. just last week, the state gave new powers to some of the representatives assigned to monitor sfusd. and those representatives are now able to overturn or even stop financial decisions made by the superintendent or the school board in order to save some money. some of the actions being considered are laying off staff and school closures. live in the studio. gloria rodriguez, abc seven news. >> thanks, gloria. new developments now in the war between israel and hamas, the biden administration paused a shipment of 3500 bombs to israel last week because of concerns they would be used in rafah. that's where more than 1 million civilians are sheltering. amanda is at the live desk and amanda,

defense secretary lloyd austin is expected to testify today. >> yeah. stephanie. >> defense secretary lloyd austin will testify today before a senate panel. he will likely be asked about u.s. policy. now, this comes as two republican senators said they were shocked and deeply concerned about reports the biden administration failed to notify congress before withholding ammunition to israel. u.s. officials are worried delaying weapons shipments could put israel's defense at risk. israeli forces launched a ground operation into rafah and have taken control of the palestinian side of the border crossing. the shipment that was paused last week consisted of 2,000 pound bombs and 500 pound explosives. a senior administration official shared a statement with abc news. it reads in part, we are especially focused on the end use of the 2,000 pound bombs and the impact they could have in dense urban settings. as we have seen in other parts of gaza, we have not made a final determination on how to proceed

with this shipment, a source tells abc news. other weapons transfers are being watched closely. it's part of a larger review of u.s. military aid to israel. back to you, stephanie. >> thanks, amanda. hundreds of people gathered at uc berkeley's sproul plaza yesterday to protest israel's actions in rafah. the plaza has served as the site of an encampment for the past two weeks. students continue to push the university to divest from companies that do business in israel. we are now 13 or 14 days into our encampments here at berkeley, and we are not here for fun and games. >> we are here to tell them that as long as you continue this annihilation of our people, we will continue to puncture power in its eye. >> a spokesperson for uc berkeley says it will not divest from israel, even though many universities are altering their upcoming graduation plans amid security concerns. >> uc berkeley is not one of them. the university says everything is going forward as planned. thousands of undergrads will get their diplomas at

california memorial stadium saturday morning. if you're going, there is a clear bag policy and no banners or signs are allowed. at last check. sather gate is open, but the encampment at sproul plaza is growing and there are barricades blocking access. in some places, campus police are keeping an eye on the plaza. there are also private security guards. >> we're going to be prioritizing the ability of graduating students, their friends and their families to participate in and to enjoy one of the most meaningful days in their life. >> in addition to the big graduation, there are 90 other graduation related ceremonies and events around campus over the coming days. >> in southern california, officials at pomona college are preparing for protestors to interrupt graduation ceremonies this weekend. a camp went up monday morning right in front of the main stage. pomona was one of the first places where pro-palestinian encampments started. some students were arrested there after entering an administration building. >> how long are you going to stay here?

district ignored severe and persistent harassment of jewish students. it also claims students endured anti semitic teacher rants in the months after the war began. the hearing is set for 715 608. >> this morning we'll take you to our sutro tower camera pointed towards the golden gate bridge where we are seeing clear skies and it is on the mild side in the city right now. we're at 60 degrees currently with a light northwest wind. other areas are much cooler in the 40s right now, but we will all be warm later on this afternoon. taking a look at highs versus average today in the first column is the forecast. later on this afternoon, you can see everybody going into the 70s and 80s. and in some areas that's about 10 or 11 degrees warmer than average. so it will feel a little more like summer than spring later on today. the coast will be lovely with lots of sunshine, so the boat, beach and surf forecast. we have lighter winds today compared to yesterday out of the northwest,

expires next april. one. market plaza has two high rise towers and a smaller office building called the landmark. google will continue operating in the landmark, but will pull out of one market's spear tower. the company tells the chronicle it remains, quote, committed to our long term presence in san francisco. one market has lost other tenants, including visa and software company autodesk. stephanie >> thanks, amanda. you can now learn more about the life of legendary reverend cecil williams, a collection of documents chronicling the late civil rights leader's work at glide memorial church have now found a permanent home at the san francisco libraries main branch. they include decades of information about how glide served people in the tenderloin and the lgbtq communities, as well as williams speeches, sermons, and correspondence. williams died last month. his memorial service will be held may 12th at glide. doors open at noon and the ceremony begins at 1:00. watch for more kids on the

roads this morning. it is national walk, bike and roll to school day. this is video from a past celebration with san francisco unified students. the idea is to get kids excited about modes of transportation that are good for our health, climate, and communities. many schools are hosting special events and activities. you may have seen this. the past few nights near coit tower. a mysterious, bright green and blue laser beam shooting skyward. at first popped up monday night and could be seen for miles. it does have the necessary approval from the city, as well as the faa, and we found out it's to celebrate the rsa conference, which is going on at the moscone center. according to mayor london breed, it's the second largest conference to be held in the city, and the rsa conference has been with us for more than 30 years. >> they welcome over 40,000 people from all around the world to talk about cyber security. so we're so happy to welcome them back to san francisco.

>> as for the beam, it's going to be around for one more night. >> pier 39 says so many sea lions visited the docks last week that it was too many. they had to clear them off for repairs. so here's video from just a week ago. as you can see, there is not a square inch left on these docks. this is the biggest gathering they've seen in 15 years, according to the harbor master. in that time, pier 39 tells us the floating docks got damaged. so let's take a live look outside at the docks to see how many are left this morning. as you can see, some of their friends are still absent. >> do you see that? >> that one guy in the middle? yep. he's kind of on the dock past the first one we see. >> looks like he's the only guy on that one. >> oh, yeah, you're right. >> well. oh, he just heard you. yeah, yeah, i don't know. you know what? maybe he isn't, you know, when you go to, like, a resort and you got to claim your territory early in the morning,

get even hotter here on friday. friday will likely see our first 90 degree days of this year. take a look at temperatures. right now it's a mixed bag. some of our coolest spots are in the 40s, like fremont and oakland, but we have some warmer locations thanks to an offshore breeze like saint helena, sonoma, fairfield, vallejo. starting out the morning in the low and mid 60s. here's future tracker showing you by noon lunchtime. we're basically into the 70s for most areas, so it feels pretty warm, pretty fast today. then heading into the afternoon, we'll find those numbers in the 70s and 80s away from the coast. and again, some of these areas are about ten degrees above average. and even this evening we're slow to cool off. so even by 8 p.m, as that sun is going down, it still feels quite nice out there. so highs today, 78 in oakland, 80 in san jose. it's warm in the city today with a high of 74. we'll go to 82 in santa rosa, 81 in fairfield the coast mid 60s to the mid 70s from half moon bay to santa cruz. we'll watch those offshore winds turn a

little breezier later on today with gusts around 20 to 30mph. and in parts of the north bay. those winds continue overnight tonight, with a wind advisory in effect. and that will keep temperatures again pretty elevated in many cities as we head into thursday, mid 50s to the low 60s for a huge portion of the region for overnight lows . that will lead to an even warmer day here on thursday. again, thursday is the warmest day along the coast. you could see a lot of 80s on the board, but we get even hotter here inland on friday with low 90s and our hottest cities. here's the accuweather seven day forecast. warming continues today. feeling like summer tomorrow with hot temperatures inland both friday and saturday. looking nice for mom on sunday with a lot of sunshine coming. our way over the weekend. then early next week we'll find some coastal clouds and a minor cool down, but temperatures mainly above average for this time of the year. guys. >> drew thank you. good morning america is coming up at seven right here on abc seven. >> and ginger zee has a look at what's ahead. >> reggie. stephanie it is great to be with you coming up here on gma. we'll start with what we're

you, stephanie. >> thanks, amanda. developing news now san francisco unified says it will do everything it can to put students first. the comments coming from a special meeting last night as the district faces tough decisions because of its budget crisis. abc seven news reporter gloria rodriguez is here. and gloria, we understand parents are worried, of course, about what this means for their kids. >> of course, many parents are. stephanie. in order to save money, some of the actions being considered include things like laying off staff and school closures, and that is concerning. some parents like bridget dyer, who has two kids in the district, including a son with autism. a new report from the california department of education highlights the financial strain and says sfusd may run out of cash by the next school year. the board of the san francisco unified school district gathered last night for a special meeting to discuss the district's budget problems. dyer tells us she's worried that her son's class size could increase as a result of some of the proposals taking away much needed attention from her son.

trump's hush money trial. adult film star stormy daniels came face to face with trump to testify about their alleged infamous encounter back in 2006. she testified in graphic detail about having sex with trump after meeting him at a celebrity golf outing. trump's lawyer called for a mistrial, saying daniels testimony was extraordinarily prejudicial, but the judge denied that request. a court transcript of a sidebar conversation reveals trump was visibly agitated. daniels described the payout as a $130,000 hush money arrangement to trump's former attorney, michael cohen, just weeks before the 2016 election. she said the deal was motivated out of fear, not money. >> now, it's an update from the abc seven news i-team. scott peterson's defense team filed a motion requesting new dna testing. in his case, peterson was convicted in the 2004 killing of his wife, laci, and their unborn child. a man is at the live desk with the court documents. amanda? yeah, reggie. >> the 89 page motion is in

response to prosecutors recent argument that there is no need for additional dna testing in the case. it was filed on behalf of scott peterson by the los angeles innocence project. now the group wants items from this burned out van to be tested with state of the art dna detection that includes the entire bloodied mattress inside the van, the burnt van was found near the peterson home the morning after lacey's disappearance. legal analyst steve clarke has closely followed the case, the key to the case for the innocence project is can they establish that laci peterson may still have been alive when scott peterson went fishing many years ago? if lacey's dna was to be recovered in that van, that could place her as alive when peterson went fishing, you may remember her body was found in the san francisco bay in 2003. prosecutors argue there was further testing already done on evidence in 2013 and 2019. the final court hearing is set for later this month. a judge could

today it's going to feel very warm this afternoon. the coast will be very nice today with sunshine boat beach and surf forecast. just light winds today out of the northwest about 5 to 10mph. waves 5 to 7ft and our ocean water temperature is still in the mid and upper 50s. so taking a look at the forecast inland today, low 80s with sunny skies, we'll have bright conditions around the bay shoreline and it will be warm and the upper 70s. and along the coast it will be a nice mild day with sunshine and temperatures in the mid 60s. so highs today 74 in the city, 78 in oakland, about 80 in san jose, 82 in santa rosa will go to 81 in fairfield. so it's warm today even warmer here tomorrow feeling like summer. and then it's just downright hot inland on friday. and this warm weather does stick around for the weekend

well. the family was driving all four members of the george family, including two young children, died in a crash in pleasanton nearly three weeks ago. the car caught fire after crashing into this large oak tree. records from the national highway traffic safety administration show someone filed a complaint about a vinfast car, with details that

seem to match this pleasanton crash. the complaint was filed days after this crash. the writer says they are the owner of the car and loaned it to a coworker. the driver in the crash. the complaint also said they had had prior issues with the car steering wheel going rogue. investigators have said they are looking into whether speed played a role here. vin fast tells us in a statement, quote, vinfast is aware of this tragic accident in pleasanton and our hearts go out to the family. >> new developments in the body of the six construction worker killed in the baltimore bridge collapse has been recovered. he was the last missing victim. authorities called the discovery a significant milestone in recovery efforts that provides closure for many families. the men were filling potholes on a bridge span when a container ship struck one of the key bridge piers back on march 26th, causing this baltimore bridge to collapse. two other workers survived the incident. time now, 644. this morning, millions of people in the midwest are cleaning up after at least a

dozen tornadoes touched down. amanda is at the live desk with more on the damage left behind. amanda. yeah. stephanie. >> multiple tornadoes touched down from michigan to ohio, ripping apart buildings and scattering debris. tens of thousands of people are without power. a fedex facility in michigan collapsed after a tornado passed through, trapping about 50 workers. there were no serious injuries, though the governor has declared a state of emergency. the national weather service issued the first tornado emergency on record for michigan yesterday. the tornado also damaged homes and a strip mall. several residents took shelter in the local library. >> the man in charge of the library let everybody come in that wanted to come in, you know, to the library for safety. so we came home, got here, and they were pulling somebody out of the rubble over there >> people took cover in this hampton inn as pieces of wood

work. the chronicle has a big write up this morning, and it says san francisco voters will likely consider a sweeping business tax overhaul in november that advocates say is critical to make the city a competitive corporate destination. the proposed measure, filed by two business leaders, would cut taxes and fees for small companies. the idea is to encourage job creation and even encourage employers to have more workers in the office. >> new at six, a richmond nonprofit is building contra costa county's first community resilience center, or crc. the harbor eight crc will serve aa recreation center and an emergency shelte during ergencies. the group behind the project is pogo park. it aims to transform lives by transforming public spaces. it just received a $10 million state grant to build the crc. the first part of construction is expected to be completed by the end of the year. now it's your morning money report. the hyper caffeinated drink at the center of multiple wrongful death lawsuits is coming off

panera bread's menu. the restaurant chain says it will stop selling charge lemonades in the next two weeks. panera is facing at least three separate lawsuits claiming the high level of caffeine in the drinks has led to the deaths of two customers and health complications in another. the company says the menu change is part of a bigger menu transformation. you'll soon be able to order takeout through the instacart app. the grocery delivery service is teaming up with uber eats to offer restaurant delivery to its customers. the two san francisco based companies announced the partnership as they face competition from doordash. instacart says it will be adding a restaurants tab to its app in the coming weeks. nationwide, tiktok and his chinese parent company bytedance have filed a lawsuit against the us government. it's a direct response to the law signed last month, ordering the company to sell the app or get banned in america. tiktok and bytedance claim such a ban actually blocks free speech and prevents users from accessing lawful
