state building and 105 miles long >> from abc news in new york. >> this is america this morning. >> good wednesday morning, everyone. i'm andrew dymburt. >> good morning to you i'm rhiannon ally. for the second straight day, we begin with an outbreak of severe weather. this time in the midwest. >> we are seeing widespread damage and dozens of injuries. after at least a dozen tornadoes from michigan to ohio. this morning, significant damage across southwest michigan. multiple tornadoes touching down, ripping apart buildings, scattering debris, leaving tens of thousands without power. this fedex facility collapsing after a twister passed through the city of portage, trapping about 50 workers. the tornado also damaging homes and a strip mall. several residents took shelter in the local library. >> the man in charge of the library let everybody come in that wanted to come in, you know, to the library for safety. so we came home, got here, and

they were pulling somebody out of the rubble over there. >> damage also reported in nearby union city and kalamazoo. hairstylist amanda miller escaped injury with her customer and coworkers as a tornado tore the roof off her barbershop. >> one photo is like the salon floor, and it's like knee deep with insulation and roofing and stuff. i just like dove for it to the break room, because i knew that was going to be like where the least amount of like, debris and stuff would come in. >> tornadoes also spotted overnight in parts of indiana and ohio. the same storm system already spawned at least 19 tornadoes across the plains, killing one person in barnsdall, oklahoma, 20 miles northeast of bartlesville. people dove for cover into this hampton inn as two by fours pierced the hotel's outer walls like spears. back in portage, michigan, this rainbow was spotted over that fedex facility after authorities reported no serious injuries. more storms are expected today

from texas to the ohio river valley. the full forecast in just a few moments. >> now to the fallout from stormy daniels testimony at the trump hush money trial. we have now learned why a judge was not happy with the former president during yesterday's testimony. here's abc's lionel moise. >> new details about what was happening inside court, as former president trump and star stormy daniels came face to face for the first time in more than a decade, a court transcript of a sidebar conversation. now reveals trump was cursing during daniels testimony yesterday. judge juan merchan telling trump's attorney, i understand that your client is upset at this point, but he is cursing audibly and he is shaking his head visually, and that's contemptuous, and it has the potential to intimidate the witness and the jury can see that trump's attorney responding, i will talk to him, the judge later saying, so i'm speaking to you here at the bench because i don't want to embarrass him. adding i won't tolerate that. trump's legal

team had tried to block daniels from testifying, but prosecutors argued the details of the encounter are important. the judge agreed, and daniels in court described her alleged affair with trump, which trump has denied. she told the jury they met at a golf tournament in 2006, and she was invited to have dinner at his hotel suite. daniels said when she arrived, trump was in silk or satin pajamas. she told him to go change, she said. they talked for hours and at one point she went to the bathroom and came to find trump on the bed in his boxer shorts and t shirt. daniels says she was startled, wondering to herself, oh my god, what did i misread? she then testified in graphic detail about having sex with trump as trump's lawyer repeatedly tried to intervene. the judge at one point called the level of detail just unnecessary, later adding there are some things that would have been better left unsaid. trump's legal team demanded a mistrial, calling daniels testimony extraordinarily

prejudicial, but the judge denied the request. legal experts say while the case is not about the alleged encounter between trump and daniels, those details may be important for prosecutors to lay out their case. >> they don't have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt they had they had sex. they don't have to prove beyond reasonable doubt that they even knew each other. they have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the checks were cut, that it was decided to put it in the book. improper and then or label it in accurately. and that that was being done for election law. fraud. >> daniels described the hush money arrangement she entered into just weeks before the 2016 election, selling her story for $130,000 in a deal brokered by trump's former fixer michael cohen, saying she didn't ask for more because she didn't care about the money. trump's attorneys taking issue with that claim and getting daniels to acknowledge that she, quote, hates trump. later, daniels was seen leaving the court as trump addressed reporters.

>> so this was a very big day, a very revealing day as you see their cases totally falling apart. >> court is not in session today. daniels will return to the stand for more cross-examination tomorrow. rhiannon andrew. >> lionel. thank you. the body of the sixth and final victim of the baltimore bridge collapse has been recovered. the 37 year old man was working on the bridge when it was hit by a cargo ship and collapsed back in march. the ship's containers are also being removed in hopes of fully reopening baltimore's port by the end of this month, breaking overnight new details on why the biden administration is pausing weapons shipments to israel amid new attacks in southern gaza. >> abc's em nguyen is here now with the latest. good morning rhiannon. >> good morning. yeah. this appears to be a major policy shift by the white house. sending a message to israel by pausing a shipment of more than 3000 bombs. a senior u.s. official says the administration last week held back the delivery

out of concern that the weapons are similar to the kind of bombs that could be used in rafah, where more than a million palestinian civilians have sought shelter since the war began. the white house opposes an israeli ground invasion there. unless there's a credible plan to protect those civilians. israeli troops entered rafah yesterday. a tank was seen crushing an i love gaza sign as troops took control of a border crossing. but u.s. officials insist israel has not yet launched a full scale invasion. >> our understanding is that this was a very limited operation designed to cut off, hamas's ability to smuggle more weapons and funding into gaza. >> meanwhile, hamas and israeli negotiators are in egypt for more ceasefire talks. hamas says it will oppose any ceasefire hostage deal as long as israel's operation in rafah continues. israel says the operation in rafah is necessary to eliminate

hamas militants hiding in that city. rhiannon. all right. >> and, gwen, thank you. authorities in ukraine say they have foiled a plot to assassinate president zelensky. they arrested two ukrainian colonels accused of spying for russia. they say the plan was to identify the people closest to zelensky who could take him hostage. >> police are investigating a shooting outside the toronto mansion of rapper drake. a security guard was seriously wounded. the shooter is on the run. police have not said if the drive by is connected to an ongoing feud between drake and fellow rapper kendrick lamar. the two have exchanged insults in recent days. investigators are analyzing video from the scene. >> i can say that we've already collected some, video evidence which captures the incident. this is no different than any other investigation. okay, like it's maybe more high profile because there's more people here, but we treat it like any other incident. >> over the weekend, kendrick lamar posted a video showing an aerial photo of drake's mansion. >> it is time now for your

not advertised as an energy drink and had the equivalent of 30 teaspoons of sugar. panera says it stands by the safety of its drinks. >> the government's push to potentially ban tiktok has hit a new legal hurdle. abc's andrea fujii reports. >> this morning, tiktok fighting back, suing the government over a potential u.s. ban. >> tiktok is suing the united states government over the ban. and can i just say on behalf of all of us, thank you. thank you. someone had to do it. >> the social media platform and its chinese parent company, bytedance, claimed the proposed ban is unconstitutional and bars every american from participating in a unique online community with more than 1 billion people worldwide. president biden signed a law last month that would ban tiktok unless it sold to a non-chinese buyer in 9 to 12 months. congressional leaders and the fbi have warned china's government may be able to use tiktok to control software on

its 170 million users devices, they said. >> we want you to put out videos that make americans fight with each other or spread conspiracy theories and get them at each other's throat, bytedance doesn't have can't go to chinese court and fight the communist party. they would have to do it. >> that's my understanding. >> but tiktok denies any security risk. >> i have seen no evidence that the chinese government has access to that data. >> the new lawsuit also argues selling the app so quickly would not be feasible due to what would be its huge price tag and the sophisticated code and algorithm that underpins the app. google's former ceo, who once considered buying tiktok, says the app should not be banned. >> my own view of tiktok is that tiktok is not really social media. it's really television, and that you can regulate television by the equivalent of the equal time rule. but somehow we're not having that conversation. >> but a new poll finds most americans 53% support banning tiktok. if it's not sold. this is not the first time bytedance has filed a lawsuit in the u.s.
